More dreadies

Couple of pictures of my dread extensions. Excuse the frankly terrible pictures of me, one day I plan to get nice pics done but at the moment its just kind of 'nights out'!
I love the blue set, although I really don't like the huge distinction between the roots and the dreads, trying to work out a way of masking them better....might make them into a wig!

This second set I dyed myself to match my hair colour and I actually really like how they've come out, plus a bit of coloured net braided in with them really makes them pop!
My next project is a set of green and purple synthetic ones....can't wait to get them in and get some photos!

Uni is going good at the moment. My corset is essentially finished, waiting til tuesday to finish it and everything. Bought my fabric last week....£109! scary times! but even though it is linen and cotton, I have to admit it is really nice, both in texture and in colour, and not all costumes can be shiny!

On top of that, drafted my patterns for 'Moonfleet', quite excited by the idea of something I made being in a touring production! Need to do a mock up first though, the costumes kind of sit half way between 18th century and modern elements and I need to make sure I have the balance right!

As for 'Her Mother's Eyes', I had to source some scrubs for the extras (found some for £2.99 for a full scrubs suit!!) and also find out how much it would be to hire a policeman's uniform and 2 paramedics....£49.50 if you wanted to know.

Performances this week: Last Saturday I went and saw a great little event in Bedminster, called Trading Local by the Show of Strength Theatre Group. There were 19 monologues being performed in about 15 (?) I think shops and cafes etc down Bedminster high street. Really really interesting, would definitly check out their stuff again!
On Thursday I was dragged kicking and screaming to see 'Boxin' from Kompany Malakhi. Now don't get me wrong, I have such respect for contemporary dancers, but it is just something I don't enjoy watching. I go with an open mind every time, but I've just never really enjoyed it. It always seems a little clunky and ungraceful to me and what with my PDD, body language isn't my strong point, so performances that rely on that....go over my head.
That said, the performers were really really good, and there was some really interesting use of set and costume, but I did feel it was a little let down by the soundtrack, which just jumped from track to track with no transition. Distracting to say the least.

So that is kind of my world at the moment...write soon!

Little Side bit

I've slowly filled this blog with uni stuff and haven't really put anything I've done out side in!
Today I just thought I'd put one of my many dread projects in.
This was a wig I made for my mother's christmas costume party.
She went as Boadicea and we decided that she probably wouldn't have had perfect waist length hair, and dreads would be far more fun for the party.
Sorry about the quality of the pictures

Pasha Selim

so this was the final piece
Here is the original design of Pasha Selim from Mozart's Il Seraglio. Designed by me

here is after the second fitting

I'm not really that happy with it, the neckline is a total botch job, the tights were never finished and everything is held together with snap fasteners....which may or may not be right
On the other hand its finished, and at least I know I can make something for a guy...I just never want to again.
